Carbon Monoxide detectors work! This past January, due to cold weather and rain with high winds covering the panhandle, I had myself and seven other smiths inside my workshop with three fires burning. Needless to say things were tight. We had the 10’x10’ rollup door open and a fan in the back of the shop to circulate the air. After three hours of working, we heard something beeping. It was the Carbon Monoxide detector I had purchased last year, and it was doing its job. We evacuated the forge area, got a couple of more fans positioned to pump fresh air into the shop and soon got back to work when the beeper stopped. The warning signs of carbon monoxide poisoning can be subtle. But the condition can become a life-threatening medical emergency. Very thankful I had the detector in place, and it prevented what could have been a bad situation. How’s your shop set?
