Dulcimer Music Stand

We’ve seen similar stands but did not like the quality so David designed and built his own. Instead of the typical butt joint with a screw or nail that can come apart with demanding use we decided to build my stand with open mortise and tenon joinery on the corners and a through dado for the cross bar. All joints are all glued and pinned with 22ga brads for extra strength. We believe this extra effort will give you significantly longer useful utility. If you lift by the black carry strap the stand will fold up and the strap fits comfortably on your shoulder so you can carry the stand to your next event, gig or just to the car. The pouch in the front is large enough for a notebook full of music plus there is a smaller pocket on the front of the pouch for pens, highlighters and picks. These items will stay in their pockets if you carry the stand by the shoulder strap. The stand is built of Alder, is approximately 24 inches tall at the front and 30 inches at the back so your music is held at a comfortable angle. The canvas duck cloth is approximately 17 inches wide so it can hold a loose-leaf notebook or two sheets of music side by side without a problem. The cross brace will be carved with a simple pattern of my choice and with my web address unless you indicate you want something special. If you do want something special we can carve text in several styles and some simple graphics.  About 25 full height letters will fit on the 2 inch crossbar, many more letters will fit if we don’t go to the full height of the bar. We have several types of graphics so send me an email first and let me send you back a proof before ringing up this purchase. We are sure we can help you come up with something you will like, but if you want something “crazy complex” we may have to decline your request or have to ask for an additional graphics editing fee. Custom colors are Burgundy, Royal Blue, Nutmeg (light brown) and gray plus others if we can find them. As with anything custom you might want to e-mail us first just to be sure we can get what you want. Your stand is shipped fully assembled in a flat art box which does make the shipping more expensive. However, on the plus side, you don’t have the headache of trying to assemble the stand and I know that all the joints pinned, glued and tight so you will have a music stand that will go the distance. Allow 2-3 weeks for delivery since each stand is build per order.

Footstool

 Why a footstool? Well If you have trouble with your dulcimer sliding off you lap while playing then maybe all you need is two or three inches under your toes to make your lap level. If you find yourself “standing on your toes” while seated in a chair to play then this is the footstool for you, you’ll be much more relaxed when playing and maybe you will even enjoy those long practice sessions.

David made this original prototype out of plywood and then several of the folks in his dulcimer club asked for similar footstools; that’s when he started making them out of solid wood, usually alder or maple. So your footstool will be solid wood, about 14 inches wide and 7 to 8 inches deep (depending on the board), sloped at a gentle angle starting about 3 inches and rising to 5 inches at the part farthest from you. The hinged feet have blocks to keep them in place when in use but the blocks swing out of the way to allow the legs to fold down for easy transport and storage. When folded the footstool is about 1-1/2 inches thick and it fits nicely in the pouch of my music stand. Finish is a natural color Danish oil.

The footstool will be carved with my web address unless you indicate you want the custom version, costs an additional $15. If you do want something custom we can carve text in several styles and some simple graphics.  About 20 to 25 3/4 inch tall letters will fit nicely – printed offset to the right, many more letters will fit if you want to cover more of the face. We also offer several types of graphics (flowers, butterflies, cats …) so if you want something very different send me an email first and let me send you back a proof before ringing up this purchase.
